Ink.

As a kid growing up in the 90's tattoos were a thing for rockers and rebellious outlaws, Today tatts have becoming the new piercings. I remember getting my first piercing back in 7th grade and feeling independent, then I saw Jayz with both his ear pierced so I "Secretly" got my other ear pierced. Looking back on that situation makes me laugh. Today I have 5 tattoos all of which I got under the age of 20, I am 22 now. I Got my first tattoo at 18 like everyone else, then followed up a few months later and so on. Now today I see people getting tattoo's like clothes. No thought process just "oh this might look cute" then waa-laa marked for life with Rey rey, Stars, butterflies, eyes or some other random bullshit. For the life of me I can't fathom the thoughts running through a person head when they get their hands tattooed, neck or FACE. The first impression is always the best but if I see a dude with a hand tattoo and his neck tatted, I'm thinking thug because 1) what kind of "important" job/career could you have with $$ tattooed on your hand 2)Your money must not stretch far if you need $$ tatted on you. Just like any other art form something can be dated very fast, 9 years there were very few tattoo parlors around now they are everywhere its almost like stop in for a morning coffee head next door to get some fresh ink.

Older people i.e grandparents, parents have never been to fond of tattoos or understand the purpose however body art is good when in moderation. Some tattoos aren't meant to be, if you have your name tattooed on your arm in script get that removed, if you have cherries or a strawberry on your waistline get that removed, MOST of ALL if you know anyone with several ex's names on their body tell them to kill themselves. As pop cultures continues it takeover of the world don't expect the tattoo phase to go anywhere. Remember tatt's are a great way to express yourself, just MAKE sure they have a meaning and purpose and something that wont look foolish when your 70(diva on your left breast?)

I have 5 tattoos. My mother has 2. I found my art work to be liberating and a part of me. If my kid steps to me at age 18 like I did my mom, I would not mind her/him getting one. I just feel like its a way of life. My grandfather has a grip of tattoos himself. His arms are tatted ot the max.

You havent added me on Myspace by the way :(

I so agree with the unnecessary tats...$$ of your hand, diva on your breast..I def feel you..

I made sure I got my tats places I can easily cover up...I think some people don't think it through. Like you said, it's like going to get a cup of coffee in the morning now...walk in and walk out with one of your face like a dumb ass!

Maybe I shd get into the laser tat removal business...I see a lot of potential there...lol

i have two tattoos and my twin has five but she is getting more.. she wants like a collage down the middle of her back its cute so far. mine are on my shoulder and one on my foot both are easy to hide if i want them hidden. the one on my foot is big it takes up my entire top foot but i love them both they both mean something to me and thats why i got them and why i wont be getting anymore. i have kind of switched over to piercings now

recently I found out they took out the trini restaurant on the coliseum block in Jamaica for a damn tattoo parlor :( twas a sad day when I was really in the mood for roti & peardrax.

Danger should be the perfect example of what not to do. My cousin has tattoos on her wrist and her neck...**BLANK STARE** i always ask her what the heck was she thinking and then i mentally gossip about her and call her all types of stupid. YOU WONT GET A JOB LOOKING LIKE A CONVICT AND YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A CAREER.

DIVA on the left breast? lmao I jave eight tatoos. Im not gonna lie and say all of them meanings, but the majority rules. Most important though, my tatoos are places that can be covered up, in job intervies, formal settings, etc. So i dont think its no biggie. People just have to be smart about it, cause in the real world, you cant get a REAL job with body art (Eventhough thats discriminating). Thats just the reality!

I REAAAALLLY LOVE THIS POST.
i did a similar one a couple mos BACK.
my gripe is w/ unnecessarily gettin' tattos cause your friend's gettin' one & ur with them. UMMM. no.
i have 7 & they have all been thought out and planned. all except 1 are in very discreet & coverable places. even the 1 on the inside of my wrist is able to be covered.
i see a lot of guys with the 3 letter acronyms on their hands, tear drops of their face (they've killed NO ONE, i'm positive) or dumb shxt. even girls i know are gettin sleeves so even if they get into CORPORATE AMERICA, THEY WILL FOREVER BE FORCED TO WEAR LONG SLEEVE SHIRTS. kinda sux on a sweltering HOT day, huh?
i say for those people w all those damn tats all ovr the PLACE, consider getting a business of your own, like a barber shop or beauty salon. CUZ NOTHIN ELSE IS OUT THERE for them, in my opinion.

*sry for the LOOOOONG response. this is a subject that struck a CORD. THX!

I have a grand total of 12 tattoos, one being a sleeve that I have to get finished after I have the kiddo. I am gainfully employed and have ALWAYS been since I was 16...I am now 29. I've been in the "corporate" world for the last 10 years and I run an Accounting Department at an Architectural Firm.

To say you can't POSSIBLY be working anywhere making any money with tattoos...ehh, I'm a walking example of how untrue that is. LOL

Depends on the field you work in, for one.

Also depends on how "visible" your tattoos are. I have two on my left wrist, one on my left ring finger, and one that says "Fly or Die" on the inside of my forearm...and those are amongst my smaller tattoos.

Point is, to each his own. Anyone who gets tatted up to my level or past me understands that there are certain places they either cannot apply for a job OR they have to remain covered up until they've been at the job long enough to where it isn't an issue.

I make my company money so they don't really give a shit...plus, my demeanor isn't threatening so they don't really pay my tatts any attention LOL

the worst is having a tat of your damn name. like really you put YOUR OWN name on your body? Are you gonna forget it one day?

I was @ green acres mall. I'm outside and this guys is on the phone complaining how he can't get job blah blah. but then he moves and i see that he has the biggest tattoo on his neck that read: BUSINESS BEFORE PLEASURE. Like really? Seriously though? Why would anyone hire that. even girls with tattoos on their arms. that shit is so trashy. How will you look in a wedding dress?

I want another though, on my hip. Sir Freshington hit me up with what you think are some good parlors. thanx!

Tats is cool, but not when they aren't well thought out.

I'm going to play devils advocate...It's your body and you do whatever you want...if i want to put come hither on my titie..i will get it...I obviously dont care the kind of guys I attract and why should you?...I am not blocking any potential men of yours...anyway i dont have come hither on my tittie but i do have 2 tattoos...none were real thought out and both are real small and cannot even be seen with certain bathing suits on...so o wells...i feel like people are too quick to judge...my boss has 6..even a neck tattoo of a rose and she makes 6 figures...so whatevs...the only tattoos that bother me are offensive tattoos,...lemme see a white man with i hate niggers...and ill scratch that shit off his skin myself and your own name, as a commenter already sed are you going to forget...trying to help the deaf people?..but besides that you do what you want...
